It was a bright morning in the Philippines, no traffic at all in the whole metro even in the provinces, tvs and radios are on for another historical match by the ‘Pambansang Kamao’ Manny Pacquiao up against his rival, Juan Manuel Marquez, yesterday Dec 10, 2012.
The fight ended when Manny ‘pacman‘ Pacquiao, the 8-time world boxing champion, hit the mat after 6 rounds of boxing against Juan Manuel Marquez yesterday at the MGM Grand Las Vegas, Nevada. People were devastated after seeing Pacquiao being totally knocked out after that right punch that hit his jaw.
Just seconds after the fight, social networking sites like, Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr, were the dumping site of people’s outburst of what just happened to their idol, Manny. It hurts a lot, really, to see the man who’s able to stop every Filipino from whatever they’re doing and just watch him fight, be totally knocked out on the ring. Emotions are just overflowing right after the fight. A lot of people, Filipinos and foreigners, mocked Manny because of his lost. They said, that he’s not well trained, he deserved the lost because he took the fight for his greed for money instead of just retiring happily with his family. Even her mother, Dionesia Pacquiao, had an outburst of anger against the pastors who led Manny to a personal relationship to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Aling Dionesia said that it was because of the change of religion that brought Manny Pacquiao to his 2 losing streak. “Hindi na siya nag sign-of-the-cross at nag susuot ng rosary bago lumaban, dahil ito sa mga pastor!!” – Dionesia Pacquiao
Funny how some responded to Pacquiao’s lost, when Manny was at the top of his career, winning and garnering championship belts right and left, people praised him, loved him and cared for him. But yesterday, a lot has turned their backs to Manny, the people’s champion. Just like Jesus, when he entered Jerusalem for His triumphant entry, Jews praised him and said, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the Highest!” – Mark 11:9-10
People praised Jesus because He was the fulfillment of the prophecies of a Messiah entering Jerusalem riding on a donkey (Zechariah 9:9). But just days after his entry, his own people turned against him accusing him of blasphemy because He said that He is the prophesied Messiah and the king of the Jews. The same people who shouted ‘Hosanna in Highest’ were the ones who shouted, “crucify Him, crucify Him!” (Mark15:12-15)
Is this human nature, being fickle minded or “balimbing“ ? After Pacquiao’s reign, will we just throw curses to him because of his lost? Exactly what Jews did to Jesus Christ 2000 years ago, due to their being fickle minded. Maybe, for some of us, Pacquiao was a source of inspiration(which I personally think that he is), source of hope for the Filipino people that we can rise up and make a mark in this world. But why curse him after his defeat? Are we fickle minded as the Jews before in Christ’s time? Maybe, it’s time for us to have an evaluation of ourselves, our loyalty and sincerity in our actions.
God bless the Philippines, God bless Manny ‘pacman‘ Pacquiao!
